Headed by chief songwriter Scotty Del, the blend of rock, ska, punk and hip hop recalls the raw energy of Sublime with a post-millennium mashup aesthetic. Beauty In The Trenches is their third studio album, and explores every avenue of their style, constantly returning to the theme of finding the beauty of friendship in the struggle for growth.

The album never stops moving through the ups and downs. Cuts like “Wonder Why” and “One-way Runway” are party jams, stories of good times with great friends that we hope will never end. Other songs such as “It’s On Now” explore darker sides of life, the brutal depths that many people live through. Overall their message is of hope, inspiration and the importance of being true to the people who support you.

The album features guest appearances from a few local artists and some internationally renown folks. Legendary Wu-Tang emcee Killah Priest dropped by the studio during one session, and hearing the beat asked the boys if he could drop a verse – the result is “B.E.N.” – a powerful ode to continuing on in the face of struggle. International lifestyle enthusiast Josh Martinez, of the highly acclaimed duo The Chicharones, also jumps in the mix for “Drive Thru”, a piano driven blues-funk joint about another day spent partying. Max Graves of Eddie Valiant drops his hard hitting workingmans poetry on “Jack and Coke” and Diction-One “the unofficial 6th member of the Bridges” comes through for the party cut “One-Way Runway”.

Check out the singles, the videos, and go ahead and grab your copy of this powerful party album either on Itunes, Amazon or on CD via Access Hip Hop!

Raise The Bridges third video from Beauty In The Trenches follows lead songwriter Scotty Del Preston into darker territory than their previous offerings. “It’s On Now” is a dark story that is all to familiar on the back roads of small cities and their surrounding towns: the protagonist is lost in his own misplaced anger, medicating with booze and drugs, and continuing the violent cycle that brought him to that place.

“It’s On Now” is carried by the rhythm of a lone acoustic guitar, and the lingering grit in Scotty Del’s voice makes the story real for the listener. The video illustrates the heavy overtones almost documentary style: a random beating in a dark tunnel, a car of thugs pushing through the city, nameless streets, domestic abuse in a formless apartment. Scotty narrates the story from an overpass at sunrise, another everyday space that may easily hold more violence and sadness than the passers by may ever notice.

“Its On Now” was directed by Phillip Haleen for Raoul Duke Productions for Taxidermy Records. It comes bundled, along with the videos for “Wonder Why” and “One-Way Runway” on the CD version of Beauty In The Trenches. The album will be available everywhere on Tuesday, June 28th and is availble for pre-order RIGHT NOW via the good folks at Access Hip Hop

IAME, of NW hip hop crew Sandpeople, just hit us off with this new video for “Thy Will” off his upcoming album “Lame”. The track is one of the heavier stories on the album, detailing a young addicts fall to heroin, while IAME reflects on ideas of god, personal choice, and the worldly contradictions that keep people struggling against the odds. The production from Smoke M2D6 is moody and sparse, until a triumphant chorus breaks the tone.Toni Hill’s spirited gospel style on the chorus offers an uplifting feeling, but no false hopes.

The video, directed by Wordsmith Jr., is shot documentary style, with footage from the streets of Portland chopped up into the narrative. We follow along, almost complicit, as a young girl falls to her addiction amid the chaos of the city. IAME tells the story as an invisible observer in her world, watching it all unfold, and also from the streets they document, as a part of the cold reality.

“Lame” will be available in stores and everywhere online on May 31st. Pre-Orders are up right now at here in the Taxidermy Store and also via our homies at Access Hip Hop.

Harvard Joeys have found their way into the general consciousness to turn the ruling class upside down. Jobo the Frog and Chernobyl Poe deliver lyrics that twist all tangible concepts into a maelstrom of ideas, with a sense of humor and abstract metaphor that will have listeners decoding their lyrics for years to come.

With Eating Books Vol. 1 they explore politics, freedom, daily reality and new perspectives on our shifting reality with a multitude of rhyme styles. The music is provided by an array of producers from around the world, creating a sonic landscape that is as varied as the global ecosystem. Almost every song moves through stages of different beats that play off each other and keep the vibe dynamic.

Every track hits heavy and the overall feeling brings to mind the more free form tracks from the Wu-Tang catalog. Eating Books Vol. 1 has some great features from artists from around the country, including Zelly Rock’s hardcore reggae style on “The Melters”, Kin Keezy on “Thinkers Club”, Bress Frame who brings his calm intellect to no less than three joints, and a special appearance from Elwood, who you will remember from the 2001 Billboard hit “Sundown“.

Eating Books Vol. 1 takes the listener through a strange journey that will have you questioning every aspect of reality, sanity and society. Those who choose this path can step forward knowing that they are doing some good for the world: All digital purchase proceeds will go to the Oregon Humane Society to provide much needed supplies for those worldly inhabitants we so often overlook.
